Honestly, I've seen cashiers handle this by going directly up to the next person in line at the other line and saying, pointedly, "I can help whomever's next!" I too hate change. I think that happens most, ironically, to people who really live in the moment, people who are incredibly present-focused. It's unnerving to give over your entire heart to a place and time, only to have it whipped out from under you like a rug. Believe me, I know.

Your writing is gorgeously detailed and hauntingly beautiful, and I am wishing you a speedy yet safe return to being present in NYC. I hope you and Jack won't have to do long-distance for too much longer.

I have not been grateful that I took five years of German classes in a long time, but getting the "Ich bin ein Berliner/I am a jelly doughnut" reference somehow makes that gratitude swell up again. Lord am I over-educated for being an actress.

He is the one whose "never-never-land" state got you where you are today, and it would not be a wise decision to just toss that aside. Roses and tangos notwithstanding, a bohemian romance cannot give you everything, especially not with the crazy rents in this town! You need to take care of yourself.
